Assassin’s Creed: Da Vinci’s Workshop is a student VR project but there’s no plans for a commercial release - PrO_RaZe

Assassin’s Creed: Da Vinci’s Workshop is a collaboration between students at NHTV and Ubisoft.
“The game itself is a co-op escape room where players must solve numerous puzzles inside Leonardo’s workshop to recover a piece of Eden,” says the website of the lead designer.
Unfortunately it’s not going to be a commercially released project, but you can see a video of the menu below:
Despite being the only big publisher actually investing in virtual reality, Ubisoft has not leveraged any of its, immensely popular, existing IPs. There are no Assassin’s Creed or Watch Dogs VR experiences, for instance.
However, it appears the publisher is, or has been at one point, working on an Assassin’s Creed VR title. The game is described as an escape room adventure that supports multiplayer.
The info comes from the portfolio site for Matt Stenquist (via AGD), a UI/UX artist working with Ubisoft’s Paris studio. Stenquist shared four examples of his work, and accompanied each one with a brief detailing of what they represent.
As you can see in the image collage below (open in a new tab), his work includes a title screen, a main menu, and icons for use in communicating with other players in multiplayer.
Not much else was shared, but Stenquist did reveal the game is built on Unreal Engine 4, and that the work was made for the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift versions.
Although the designs were meant for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, it’s unlikely the game – should it actually be in development – will be skipping PlayStation VR. Ubisoft is one of the proponents of an open VR platform, and even proved as much by allowing cross-headset play in all of their games.
That said, maybe Assassin’s Creed VR requires room-scale VR, something PSVR cannot provide. This could be a reason why it’s only being developed for the high-end PC headsets.

Assassin’s Creed VR Game Developed, But Likely Won’t Release - PrO_RaZe

A new Assassin’s Creed VR title is in development, which gives a chance to explore Leonardo da Vinci’s workshop, but it may never release to fans.

Although 2016 didn’t see a new Assassin’s Creed title launch, and there has been little in the way of a future game announcement so far this year, it seems that Ubisoft has developed a virtual reality title that is set in the franchise’s universe. It might not be the VR assassin game of our dreams, but the company has created a co-op escape room that is set inside Leonardo da Vinci’s workshop.
The game is a collaboration between Ubisoft and students at NHTV in the Netherlands, reports VG24/7. The Assassin’s Creed-inspired title was developed as a way to experiment with the latest VR technology, and there are currently no plans to release the project as a standalone game. According to the lead developer’s websiteAssassin’s Creed: Da Vinci’s Workshop requires players to solve numerous puzzles inside Leonardo’s workshop in order to recover a piece of Eden.
Not much else is known about the project at this point, and the developers are all presumably under the same NDA that the lead developer states restricts him from providing any more information right now. The game is being developed for Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive on the Unreal Engine 4, but we will have to wait until the project is completed to learn any more.
Ubisoft has previously announced its intention to release an Assassin’s Creed VR experience, so this project might be the company testing the waters for a bigger development soon to come. It is unlikely that we will ever get a chance to play the workshop escape room game, but there’s always a chance that the developers will get the opportunity to bring it to a gaming convention for attendants to try for themselves.
In other Assassin’s Creed news, the actual next installment in the long-running franchise is rumored to be coming to the Nintendo Switch, a console which is set to launch in just less than a month. The series needs to impress with its next game, seeing as the only Assassin’s Creed content we’ve had to tide us over was the rather disappointing Michael Fassbender movie.
The film did give us a new take on the Animus however, something that director Justin Kurzel revealed that Ubisoft was impressed with and might even feature in future games. Regardless of the movie’s total success, it seems that it may have at least had some impact on the franchise, allowing the formula to be changed with the next Assassin’s Creed‘s release.

Update: Ubisoft Might Be Working on an Assassin’s Creed VR Game (uploadvr.com) - PrO_RaZe

Update: Matt Stenquist, the designer of the icons uncovered yesterday, has taken to Twitter to explain that his work was a collaboration between Ubisoft and his university, and not an official project. No Assassin’s Creed VR yet, then.

Original story: Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed series roots its fiction deep in virtual reality within the game world, but could we soon see a new entry in the franchise for today’s real-life headsets?
Judging by a recent post on design website Dribbble, the company could at least be working on something tied to the series internally. UI and UX designer Matt Stenquist recently posted images of logos and icons for what he described as “an internal Assassins Creed escape room game.” Stenquist says he “Led the UI/UX” for the project, apparently for Ubisoft Paris. Going by the descriptions for the images, the project was developed for the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift using Unreal Engine 4. It’s also a multiplayer experience.
We’ve included the images below (click to enlarge). The first shows the game’s logo, though it doesn’t feature any kind of subtitle. Another shows icons used, some of which Stenquist noted were dated as they weren’t “optimised for VR”. The final set of icons is a series of heads players use to communicate with others.
We’ve reached out to both Ubisoft and Stenquist to ask about the experience, but neither has responded at the time of publication. We’ll let you know if we hear any more details.
Even if the game is real, it might never see the light of day. An “internal” project could mean that Ubisoft is simply trialing such an experience and has not given it the greenlight. You might remember, though, that the publisher showed off a prototype of Eagle Flight at E3 2015 before it was confirmed as a full game later in the year, so its possible it could grow into a product too.
Even if it does come to fruition, it sounds like this game would be quite different to the full, third-person, open world games that we see in the main series. Escape room games are popular in the VR industry, and usually involve locking players in a room and tasking them with solving puzzles in order to escape. Still, Assassin’s Creed is no stranger to spin-offs, and the series’ penchant for time-swapping stories presents some interesting opportunities for the genre.
We have already seen one cinematic Assassin’s Creed VR experience, tying into the recent movie, but fans would surely welcome a full-blown VR game.

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate: Devs Explain Level Design, Railroad System And More - INFYNITEX

Assassin's Creed Syndicate_01

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate has already earned the title for most hyped Assassin’s Creed game in the last few months. The game is said to be the first to really take advantage of what the current generation consoles can do and Ubisoft has long talked about the size and scope of the game, that includes a number of different side missions. There really has been some serious work putting the world of Syndicate together. Jonathan Dumont recently sat down for a rather extensive interview with Gizmodo and talked about his approach.
Dumont says that he feels as though there is a very big difference between world design and level design. “World design is to create a credible and immersive world that offers gameplay and exploration opportunities, while level design is more of a moment to moment guide that supports specific actions.” Dumont said. He added that the key, when talking about an open world game, is to work hard to lay the right foundation. Dumont pointed out that when creating a video game world, he often borrows from the real world and bends it to his whim.
This was most recently demonstrated with the way they dealt with the railroad system in London. While the railroad is modeled after the real system, there are subtle differences such as connecting all of the stations in the game. They weren’t all connected in real life. This is a difference that most people wouldn’t have known about and makes it that much easier to get around in the Assassin’s Creed world. The developer says that the game will be able to engage people from a historical way, while still bringing a story that lends itself well to the series as a whole.
Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is set for release on the PS4, PC and Xbox One on October 23.

Assassin's Creed Unity Latest Update: Bugs remain unfixed, no patches available? Series of titles released - INFYNITEX

Assassin's Creed (Credit: Ubisoft) Assassin's Creed Unity bugs remain in PS4, Xbox One, PC gameplay?

Read more:
Released in 2014, Assassin's Creed Unity relives the countless bugs that were discovered during the gameplay with its associated patches made to fix these. However, there are still a lot of fans who weren't able to have a satisfying gaming experience with this series of Assassin's Creed compared to the other released titles.

As observed, the updates about Unity series seemed to have its silence right now compared to the upcoming updates of the game for either Chronicles or Victory, which were slated for this year launching. Chronicles will be released to its spin-offs in China this 21st and the latter is still rumoured to have it by December this year.
Moreover, both of these game series have good reviews from critics published online and as noticed, there are a lot of fans, who are anticipating them for their respective launching dates. Amid high expectations, a lot of them are hopeful that they won't end up like Unity.
However, for the case of Unity, it had the same level of expectations from gamers before its release. According to some critic reviews, they mentioned about having stunning graphics included in the game, which is really a big plus for the game in general.
But when the game was launched last November of the last year, a lot were disappointed to the countless bugs discovered from the game. There are some who can't render game even with the lowest frame-rates, some said about demanding system requirements, as saying,
"If you can put up with the stuttering performance and some comically ridiculous bugs (my favourite was an assassination target moon-walking backwards into my confused assassin's cavalry sabre) then there's a decent Assassin's Creed experience to be found in Unity," GameWatcher said.
"This game pisses me off. I was so excited for this watching the trailers for this game got me really excited! I can barely run it with a i5 4690k, Asus Strix GTX 970 and 8 gigs of ram," one gamer cited.
Moreover, one site mentioned, "It is a shame Ubisoft was incapable of fully optimizing the game for high-end users."
In response to these bugs that includes even the combat issues, Ubisoft made different patches available to fans, however, until now, there are still bugs remain unfixed. Other poor performance of some parts of the game was still noticed. So far, there are no updates from the game developer as to whether they would make another patch for eliminate every bug in the future.
It seemed that the engineering team of the game developer was not that capable to fix these problems. At least, the fans will have a smooth and continuous Assassin's Creed Unity gameplay across platforms.
